Thought leadership: The good, the bad and the truly effective

Turning executives into thought leaders is priceless – something that ironically creates difficulty for communication professionals to get the green light to do it.

Crayton Webb, owner and chief executive of Dallas’ Sunwest Communications, will share tips at our March 19 lunch for helping the brass understand the value of making their opinions matter in their industries.

“The process can be time- and resource-intensive,” says Webb, who previously spearheaded efforts on this front at Mary Kay Inc. “With budgets tightening, people in the corner office understandably ask, ‘What will be the return on our investment?’”

Webb, a former reporter at CBS11 and contributor for D CEO, will discuss what works and what doesn’t in thought-leadership pushes, both internally and externally.

He will also examine methods for measuring success.

“These projects must move the needle, or communicators risk getting on the bad side of the people they are trying to help,” he says.
