Toyota, North Texas Food Bank and VolunteerNow present an amazing hour on giving back, CSR and building sustainable volunteer programs.

Ana Meade, Diana Carranza and Judy Shannon will comprise a dynamic panel discussion focusing on sustaining and communicating successful volunteer and corporate social responsibility programs!  We’ll learn about successful Hurricane Harvey relief efforts, the Toyota/North Texas Food Bank partnership, the IABC Dallas Heroes program, as well as how individuals and organizations can make our community a better place to live.

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, thousands of people in Houston and along the Gulf Coast sought immediate safety, food and shelter while neighboring communities – like North Texas – looked for ways to help. As communicators, we are often challenged to react to these events by either providing information or resources on how to help. Non-profit organizations may see a surge of contributions and volunteers while corporations rely on community relations departments to provide direction for employees wanting to pitch in. When a disaster like this strikes, we are reminded how important it is to have a philanthropic mission. Our panelists will dissect this very topic, touching on the importance of volunteer programs, their business impact and communication strategies to engage all types of stakeholders.

Panelist Bios:

 
Ana Meade is Senior Manager, Social Innovation - Community Connections for Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), headquartered in Plano, TX. In her senior leadership role, she is responsible for developing and delivering Toyota’s philanthropic giving and volunteer engagement strategy across North America. Working under the umbrella of Toyota’s Social Innovation division, Ms. Meade’s Community Connections team is a sister function to the areas of Diversity & Inclusion, Environmental Sustainability, Mobility, and the Toyota USA Foundation. Most recently, as one of the first 50 Toyota team members on the ground supporting the consolidation of Toyota’s North American Corporate Headquarters in North Texas, Ms. Meade was responsible for cultivating relationships with local relevant, key community organizations and influencers. Ms. Meade joined Toyota in 2004 as a Strategic Corporate Recruiter. She has since served the company in several leadership roles in the areas of Organizational Development, Strategic Planning and Diversity & Inclusion. Prior to joining Toyota, Ms. Meade worked in a range of industries, including publishing, biotechnology, consulting, and non-profit education, driving talent acquisition and human capital development strategies. A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, the Olin Graduate School of Business, Ms. Meade earned her MBA, with a focus on Strategy & Organizational Design. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, specializing in Social Psychology, with a minor in Education, from the University of California, Los Angeles. Ms. Meade currently resides in McKinney, TX with her husband, Jeff, and their three children.

 
Diana Carranza has nearly a decade of experience leading communication efforts for top nonprofits in the DFW area. She has served on the communications team at the North Texas Food Bank since December 2013 and manages the organization's digital communication strategy including social media, the website, and email communication, and leads efforts to raise more than $3 million annually through online platforms. Her work at the Food Bank also includes traditional media outreach and internal communications endeavors to support the organization's work to provide access to more than 70 million meals annually.  In addition to her professional work, Diana enjoys volunteering her time with area nonprofits: She serves on the Steering Committee and as a counselor for Camp Esperanza, a week-long camp for children with cancer.
 

Judy Shannon is Director of Agency Relations for VolunteerNow.  She is an author, public speaker, innovator and life-long volunteer.  Her nonprofit career began after 9/11 ended her corporate career as Regional Director of Training for Hyatt Hotels. She has an MS in Organizational Communication from TCU where she wrote, received, and administered a 4-year federal grant to build the capacity and sustainability of nonprofit organizations. Ms. Shannon was integrally involved in the development of VOLY.org and continues to work to ensure that features are incorporated to help nonprofits, schools, government departments and disaster response organizations connect with quality volunteers and help volunteer managers streamline the process of recruiting and managing volunteers. Ms. Shannon and her husband have 2 daughters, 2 Kenyan college students they call their ‘bonus-children,’ and a one-year-old granddaughter, Riley Ann.
 

Karen Reid helps organizations cultivate engaged and thriving volunteer workforces. Karen’s career has traversed dual paths in the fields of communications and volunteer management and she has merged the two together to create Kaber Communications. Through Kaber, Karen focuses on all aspects of successful volunteer programs including innovative program creation, advocacy and strategy as well as recruitment, retention, recognition and skills-based opportunities. An accomplished trainer and speaker, Karen is Certified in Volunteer Administration and has overseen successful volunteer programs throughout the U.S. She has an MA in Journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder and is a past IABC Dallas and IABC New Jersey board member. She currently is PR/Marketing Chair for the Texas Volunteer Management Conference and member of the 2017-18 IABC Foundation Committee, which generates resources to support IABC’s mission and to demonstrate the power of professional communication as a force for good in business and society.
